Founded in 1980 as an independent music store, the Princeton Record Exchange continues to promote and support some of the best musicians and their recordings, including Strokes CDs, DVDs and more. They Might Be Giants playing live April 21st, 2012!

You may not know this, but Record Store Day is right around the corner. And if I had to guess, if you didn't know that, you also don't know that it's a big deal. In fact, it's such a big deal that we've got giants coming to celebrate with us! They Might Be Giants, a family-friendly band with a Platinum album, 4 million records sales, and a Grammy will be performing for FREE in front of the Princeton Public Library! Then, if you're as big a fan of their work as we are, join us back at Princeton Record Exchange for an in-store signing with the legends themselves!

At this point, a very small percentage of you may be wondering, "wait, who are these guys?" I'm glad you asked - but the truth of the matter is you've probably heard them and just don't know it. Have you ever seen the intro to the hit TV show "Malcolm in the Middle"? That's them. Have you ever gotten "The Daily Show's" opening song stuck in your head? That's them. Have you ever sung "Istanbul Not Constantinople" to yourself in the shower? After seeing them, my bet's you will!

We'd like to mention a special thanks to our friends at Princeton Public Library who have graciously agreed to host the concert. For you out-of-towners, that'sHinds Plaza (65 Witherspoon St., just two blocks from the store). The performance will run from 6:00 to 6:45 pm no matter the weather. And if you'll allow me to misquote Yogi Berra, it ain't over til it's over after it's over. That's because after they finish, they'll meet-greet-and-sign autographs for fans at Princeton Record Exchange from around 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

In addition to TMBG, Record Store Day will also feature hundreds of limited edition vinyl records from the most talented musicians of our time. If you're interested in one of the limited edition releases, we highly recommend you arrive early to maximize your chances of buying a copy. It's first come, first serve, so we look forward to seeing you bright and early!

Strokes Biography

The Strokes are an American rock band formed in 1998 that rose to fame in the early 2000s as a leading group in the garage rock revival. Upon the release of their acclaimed debut album Is This It in 2001, many critics hyped the group as the "saviors of rock" for their stripped down sound, heavily influenced by bands such as The Velvet Underground. Since then, the band has maintained a fan base and has enjoyed much success in the United Kingdom.

The Strokes formed at a young age, with each of the members connected in some way to lead singer/songwriter Julian Casablancas. Casablancas, guitarist Nick Valensi, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti started playing together while attending Manhattan's Dwight School. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture had been friends with Julian and was attending the Lycée Français de New York. At age 13, Casablancas was sent to Le Rosey, a boarding school in Switzerland in order to straighten up his behavior, as he developed drinking problems at a young age and was consequently doing poorly in school. While there, Casablancas became acquainted with guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr.. Years later, when Hammond came to New York to attend New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, they became reacquainted and began sharing an apartment together. They officially christened themselves The Strokes.
