Why Did I Not Think Of This Earlier?

by Melissa in Uncategorized

In my last post, which I am assured was not my best, I said that not much was happening musically in my world. However, over the week I just remembered that it’s not necessarily true. I would like to maybe take some time these upcoming weeks to chronicle the production of a musical event that I am participating in at Westminster Choir College. The Westminster Conservatory Youth Opera Workshop is currently getting ready to perform it’s latest production, “Pandora’s Box”.

Currently in it’s sixth year, The WCYOW provides an introduction to opera and theatrical production. Operated by two professors of the college, this exciting program gives youth the opportunity to experience first-hand all facets of this fine art, from performing on stage to accompaniment to tech crew work. The operas, in an effort to introduce the children to various writers of opera music, are works by a certain composer selected and arranged into an often humorous story. This year’s performance, “Pandora’s Box” is a comic opera to the tunes of Jacques Offenbach, and is based on the classic Greek myth. However, the whole bit about the release of the world’s evils has been omitted. In it’s stead is a hilarious case of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and can-can dances that viewers of all ages will enjoy.

Performances will be held at Rider University’s Yvonne Theater on July 24-25 at 7:00 PM, and July 26-27 at 3:00 PM. Select musical numbers will also be performed at the Princeton Public Library at 3:30 PM. Tickets are five dollars and can be ordered by calling (609)-921-7104. We’ve been practicing very hard, so please consider coming!
