Mo choices, mo music!

by Dee in Opinion Posts, Top 10, Uncategorized

It’s the same thing every year; XPN puts on a four day music festival and then we’re asked to make lists of our favorites of eight hundred, eighty five something or another into to a “top ten” list format based upon our preferences.

The first year it was songs, and then it was artists, and last year, for some ungodly reason we were supposed to compile our “Top 885 Magical Musical Moments”, and no, I still don’t understand what the hell they were talking about.

What I do know is that the “Top Ten” from any music lover’s huge and varied music collection will invariably include The Beatles, Dylan, Clapton, Springsteen and Joni, since they’re always there during the playback.

I don’t understand this either, since this is when XPN turns into any generic “classic rock” station on the dial.

I understand the power of certain musicians and bands; there are times when all you want to do is listen to your favorite CD, over and over again. As a music lover, we know that what you choose to listen to comes to you by way of your environment as well as your mood.

And, now we come to XPN’s latest list: choose your ten essential XPN songs

I’m going to take this a step further and interpret this as, “Choose Your Essential Triple AAA Radio Type Songs”.

While it doesn’t make it any easier to choose tunes, it makes me free not to choose The Beatles, Dylan, Clapton, Springsteen and Joni.

So, if given the choice, who would you choose not to listen to?

  1. Robin Slick Says:

U2, Sting, Springsteen, Aerosmith (tho’ I don’t think even XPN sinks that low), John Mayer (sorry – the most self-absorbed bland…never mind, not worth my time but if you want to read the most idiotic ramblings ever, visit his blog), and 2/3 of the chick singer/songwriters…sorry.

Hey, while I’m here, thanks for the kind words in your blogpost on Utopia. And don’t worry about the SOR thing – we were lucky to be involved before they went spoiled suburban and corporate. I have nothing further to say other than bleh but I wish them the best and thank them for hooking Julie and Eric up with Adrian. Finally, a plug for my son – you can catch Eric Slick on drums with Chris Harford tonight at a venue right near you – the Sourland Music Festival at the Hillsborough Country Club Polo field, 146 Wertsvill Rd, Hillsborough Twp, New Jersey.

Erm…a polo field? A country club? Ha!
