Vma’s: Not As Scary As I Thought It Would Be
by Melissa in Concert Reviews
First off, I apologize for the recent unprofessionally long absences. I have been shirking my duties, but it will cease and desist, I promise.
Now that’s out of the way. Most may remember my rant about music these days going down the toilet and that all the good stuff is gone or hiding. Well I start to realize… I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’ve isolated myself from the mainstream enough to not know if music really is becoming bad. So I decided to re-educate myself by watching the MTV Video Music Awards.
This year’s extravaganza was hosted by rising star Russell Brand, known in England for stand-up work, a radio program and an autobiography. I found him rather amusing and enjoyed his enthusiasm for his MC duties. Others who participated in the show were house band Travis Barker and DJ AM, and presenters like Taylor Swift, Jamie Foxx, Demi Moore, and Michael Phelps. Performers included Paramore, Pink, The Jonas Brothers, Kid Rock, Katy Perry, and Lil Wayne.
Britney was very obviously the star of the show, opening the show and winning all the awards she was up for. A lot of people say that it wasn’t fair, but with the wild ride that was her life last year and the way she’s been trying to get it back on track, you gotta admit it was deserved(P.S. has anyone other than me realized that Jamie Lynn has disappeared?)
Oddly there was very little of the famous mayhem. The only thing that came remotely close was when Russell Brand made fun of the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings. Honestly that in itself wasn’t bad. If your personal choices are constantly discussed, it’s begging to be poked at. To quote What the Buck’s Michael Buckley, ” I did that a year ago! Why am I not hosting?” What made it bad for me was when Jordin Sparks milked it and said that not everybody wanted to be a slut. Ouch! Not cool.
So ultimately, it wasn’t a bad experience, but I’ll never do it again. Now if you’ll excuse me, I must now go back into hiding from the mainstream.
Tootles! Mel
